Army green is hands down one of my preferred colours to wear, perhaps because it combines well with so many others (pink, mustard, camel, black, orange,…); or maybe, because of the cool, ready to battle feel that it discharges. Now that I come to think about it, it also happens to be a staple colour of one of my favourite casual brands: Marissa Webb. So maybe it is a little bit of all of this together what pulls me towards the hue. Whatever it may be, here is a look that revolves around the concept of strength and combat, a mood that is given by the cargo jeans and the killer Vince Camuto laser-cut heels.
Last Wednesday, cladded up in candy pink, I was glad to be wearing woolly layers and jeans. Believe it or not, the afternoon we shot this look was a particularly chilly one. It is March, and the soon to be unbearable heat of Summer has been thrusting the mercury up. But for no reason, that evening, the clouds were ganging up on us and threatening with rain. Even if the cool temperatures offered us a soothing afternoon, we were forced to shut the panoramic doors because the mischievous winds wouldn’t give us a rest.
The moment I saw these pants, I knew how I wanted to style them. Forget the same-print boxy top that was hanging right next to them, these were begging to be paired with a plain crop top, a long cardigan or vest, and a seductive pair of pumps. Surely enough, when I put it all together, it looked even better than what I had pictured. It is amazing how a sharp look can boost your confidence and give you a change of attitude. When my reflection in the mirror met my eyes, it immediately grinned back at me in cahoots.
I blame Johanna Ortiz for my fixation on naked shoulders, and Ellery for the one on flared everything (sleeves, hemlines…). And what do you know?, this black bodysuit combines them both!
I literally, grabbed it on my way out of the store. After fine combing the place from top to bottom, I was stepping out, when my eyes fell upon the ample sleeves. I grabbed the bodysuit, pulled one sleeve up to a 90 degree angle, and fell in love with the cascading extra cloth that draped gracefully. Despite de unpracticality of it, -I mean, for real, who needs XL sleeves plunging into glasses or sweeping across the table?,- its crushing style blur the unlucky scenarios away.
By now, I have lost count on the amount of times that I have proclaimed our shoulders to be the hottest couple of the moment! Believe me when I say that they are, at the same time, your best allies, and your sharpest weapon to conquer the streets. From a girl who has tried on as many possible variations of the off-the-shoulder trend to you, the one that I find more comfortable is when the sleeves come “detached” from the main part of the top, such as the one I’m wearing on this post; that way the sleeves won’t be rolling up at your every move.
Poplin shirts are having a major moment right now. I love how designers are upping the ante of casual wear, by adding whimsical details to our usual, everyday shirts. They come with ruffles, tassels, flared sleeves, and a long line of etceteras.
The moment I spotted this particular top, I coveted it; its allure residing on how it mixes your typical baby blue stripes with the floral embroideries, a style very à la Gucci. I kept the look on the cool tones, by sticking to blues, whites, and silvers. This way, the outfit results fun, yet smart enough for a casual day of work.
