Best Dressed: Met Ball 2017

As the coolest, most fun-watching, and avant garde carpet of them all, the Met Ball is the rebel cousin of red carpets. The one the rest gawk at in admiration and pray for a bit of its coolness to rub off on them.

However, fascination doesn’t come without a risk of its own. For those who dare walk this carpet, there is a fine line between a perfect revolutionary and fashionable look, and a what-where-you-thinking, painfully cringing apparition. Since an image can speak louder than words, let’s stop talking and start showing!

The Succesful Risk-takers

Here are those who delivered style, progress, and excitement all wrapped in one, without eroding their own image.

Lily Aldridge in Ralph Lauren offered us a masterclass on accessorizing. This look could have fallen short for the Met Ball, had it not been for the red Balenciaga boots and the pink mesh, daintily wrapped around her face.

Best Dressed: BAFTA Awards 2017

Last night was a major one on the calendar of both actors and singers. While London hosted the 2017 BAFTA Awards, LA did its part with the Grammys. This is great news for us who get to admire or cringe over a whole bunch of dazzling or dreadful looks, accordingly.  As biased as you guys know that I am, let’s begin our review with London.

I will sum up this red carpet as an Alexander McQueen night, for although it was not the reigning designer of the event in terms quantity (Gucci had more numbers on the carpet), it was definitely the reigning one in terms of splendour. Talking about reigning, Kate Middleton, our beloved British Cinderella, looked radiant in an off-the shoulder, floral McQueen. She exuded royal poise with every step.

Couture High Notes

AVauthier

Alexandre Vauthier

Fashion month is slowly but surely crawling up on our calendars. Scrumptious appetizers have been already served in the form of exquisite haute couture looks.  An array of frothy tulles, swift silks, and glinting embellishments were amongst the ambrosial hors d’ouevres. I am leaving you with with a brief recap of what have been my top looks so far.

Covetable

IMG_2736

I am not much of a trousers girl, but the minute I spotted this pair, I knew I had to have them. They were lurking on the hanger behind a couple of white blouses. Crisp, clean. “It is the last pair”, pointed out one of the shop girls as she saw me coveting them. They were a size too small. But ladies, when we really want something, we don’t mind sweating a little bit for it. I had to squeeze myself in. Yes they were a size too small, but those oh so straight legs that make mine look lengthier, and that high waist that makes mine look daintier… I had to have them! Besides, no one else can tell; and I am not one to complain.

The One That I Want

Chanel No.5’s last ad video has become my latest favourite fashion film. The music, the photography, and, of course, the fashion in it, all come together in perfect harmony to create a beautiful story line. The story line represents the strong, elegant, rounded women that the brand stands for. But instead of praising it, I’ll leave it for you to enjoy for yourselves.
