“I’m trying to bring a lot of reality to Dior, which relates to how women live their lives today,” said Raf Simons to The Independent last weekend, and then he gave us AW14 Couture. Actions do speak louder than words… Let go of the idea that Couture is made to be worn solely to once in a life time occasions. Dior Fall 2014 Couture was a collection intended to be incorporated into women’s daily wardrobes. And isn’t that the most supreme expression of luxury? Buying a couture piece and mix matching it with ones day to day attires?
As wearable as the pieces are, the craftsmanship and intricate detailing are still visible in the garments. The lines, the buttons, and the embroideries are there to remind us that it is still Couture we are talking about.
If there was something that made my heart jump, it would be the floor length coats. They were so elegant, so beautiful, so wearable! Yes, this was a collection designed for the women of today.
“Intento traer mucha realidad a Dior, una que se relacione a cómo viven las mujeres de hoy”, dijo Raf Simons a The Independent en una entrevista el fin de semana pasado. Acto seguido, Simons nos dio la colección de Alta Costura Otoño 2014 para Dior. Las acciones hablan más que las palabras.
Para entender ésta última colección, es preciso desembarazarse de la idea de que la alta costura es creada para ser usada sólo en ocasiones puntuales. La línea de Dior fue diseñada para los atuendos del día a día. Y, ¿no es acaso ésta la mayor expresión del lujo?, ¿comprar una pieza de alta costura e incorporarla en los atuendos menos opulentos?
Aunque las piezas son tan fáciles de usar, la detallada elaboración permanece presente en cada una de ellas, en las líneas, en los botones, en los bordados. Y es que no podemos olvidar de que estamos hablando de alta costura.
Si hubo una pieza que me atrajo sin remedio, fueron los largos abrigos que llegaban hasta el suelo ¡Eran tan elegantes, tan bonitos, tan usables! Definitivamente, esta fue una colección pensada y diseñada para la mujer actual.

Well, yes this is definitely still Couture…and so it will remain as a luxury, but it is interesting to see how Simons is aiming for a more wearable Couture… as opposed to a ballgown one 🙂
